alaskan Malamute - the athlete

Malamutes are one of the most versatile dog breeds in the world. They love to work and try new things. Most importantly, they love to take part in activities with their people. Most healthy Malamutes will be ready for high impact sports after the age of 1 as long as training is done in moderation, but for harness and high impact sports, we recommend waiting till they are 2 years old to allow both their minds and bodies to grow.

ALASKAN MALAMUTE - THE therapy dog

Picture
Naturally very fond of children and people in general, Alaskan Malamutes can make excellent therapy dogs. There are several programs across Canada and the US that offer guidance for training for therapy work, and also employ dog/handler teams for official therapy work. While it can be mentally exhausting (and should be done only in the best interest of the dog), therapy work is often very rewarding for both the dog and the handler. If you're interested in getting your Malamute involved in therapy work, we recommend that you start their training right away from puppyhood using a lot of positive reinforcement and positive experiences.
