Grooming
Malamutes are fairly low maintenance as far as grooming is concerned. They shed their undercoat out twice a year to adjust to the warmer and colder seasons. During this time, chunks of fur will come out of the coat like in the photo shown below. The amount of daily shedding can be minimized through brushing and a bath & blowout either at home or by a professional groomer every 2 to 3 months.

Conditioner is not required for most Malamutes with a standard coat. However, paired up with a deshedding shampoo, a good deshedding Conditioner can help during seasonal blow outs to loosen the undercoat, which then allows for a more successful blow out.
We do recommend that you start off with a gentle puppy shampoo as you get the puppy used to baths and graduate to regular cleaning and deshedding products once the puppy is older. If you're looking for recommendations on high quality products, we would be happy to help! |
