“The Malamute is too fine and distinguished a breed to be changed into anything but what centuries of adaptability to its environment has produced. Our efforts should be to breed not only beautiful Malamutes, but as good specimens physically as were originally found in Alaska. It isn’t a question of breeding a better Malamute, but as good an Alaskan Malamute.”

about usWe are a small, family operated kennel in Eastern Ontario, Canada (Ottawa and the Valley) owned and managed by myself, Samurdhi Gunawardena. Our mission is to help preserve this wonderful breed through breeding for type, health and temperament. Our dogs are a part of our family, and as such they are treated with much love and respect.
We are active members in good standing with the Canadian Kennel Club (CKC), the Alaskan Malamute Club of Canada (AMCC) and the Ottawa Kennel Club (OKC). All dogs used in our breeding program are carefully screened for soundness of the mind and body, and are health tested. With breed advocacy being one of our top priorities, we welcome anyone who is looking to learn about the breed to explore our "Education" section of the site and contact us for more information. |
the beginning
It all began with a puppy that came in to my life at a time I needed him the most. Upon discovering the breed a few years prior, I felt a strong pull towards Alaskan Malamutes. The more I learned about them the more I felt like this was the breed I had been waiting for all my life. Having grown up with multiple dogs in my life since birth, I knew it was only a matter of time till I was in a place in life to dive into these amazing dogs.
After researching and preparing myself for three more years, I found Jorge De Andrade of Bearhug Kennels in Dundalk, Ontario who not only gave me my beautiful Sylar, but also went on to inspire me to embark on the journey of becoming a preservationist breeder. Sylar was chosen for me at 5 weeks of age due to his extremely laid back and adorable personality. In April 2016, I brought him home at 2 months old, and little did I know this dog was going to change my life forever. |
Fast forward a couple of years, and after having learned so much more about the breed and the important role preservationists play in protecting this magnificent breed, I felt as though it was my second calling to join hands with them. In October 2018, I acquired my first show puppy (Eleanor) from Jorge who had welcomed me into the world of purebred dogs with open arms. Eleanor and I made our debut in the show ring at the Alaskan Malamute Club of Canada National Specialty in 2018 where we received an overwhelming amount of support and encouragement from other veteran breeders. Today, we continue to represent our breed with much pride and take part in a variety of dog sports and events that allow us to share our knowledge and experiences with everyone we meet.
